Our Story
What began as a personal love for the loyal and intelligent nature of Australian Cattle Dogs quickly grew into a lifelong calling. Our journey started with a single Shiba Inu whose charm, loyalty, and with inspired us to share this extraordinary breed with others.
Driven by a desire to elevate the breed standard and bring healthy, well-tempered Australian Cattle Dogs into loving homes, Blue Heeler Kennels was born. Today, our family-run breeding program is built on a foundation of trust, transparency, and unwavering care for every dog we raise.

We believe in quality over quantity. Our program is intentionally small-scale, allowing us to give each dog and puppy the attention, socialization, and care they deserve from day one.

We adhere to ethical breeding standards to ensure happy, healthy puppies for families.
Blue Heeler Kennels takes pride in being a small, intimate, hands-on preservation breeder. We raise our puppies underfoot along with our adults, and all of our dogs are happy, healthy pets first and foremost. We keep the number of dogs at home limited, so everyone can have as much attention as they need.
We strive to breed the best Australian Cattle Dogs possible and emphasis is placed on temperament and health, in the belief that to be a happy dog, a Australian Cattle Dog must be a good pet. After that, we breed for soundness and “type,” those qualities that make a Shiba look and act like a Australian Cattle Dog and excel in the showring.
We believe firmly in testing for the potential of Hip Dysplasia, luxating patellas and eye disorders. We require OFA and CERF examinations on all our animals before breeding. Each puppy receives a thorough veterinary exam before leaving us, and we have a 100% refund guarantee for 30 days after purchase.
At Blue Heeler Kennels, we plan a few litters a year in the hopes of keeping one for ourselves. The rest of the litter is sold to show or companion homes. All puppies are spoken for before they are even conceived so do not be surprised to have to wait for a well bred Australian Cattle Dog as most breeders do not have them readily available, waiting around for homes.
We also believe that as breeders, we should always be available to the puppy buyer as a constant and continuing reference. We welcome questions about the breed and about development and training. We encourage the use of force-free training for our puppies. Our gentle methods of creating a well loved friend are easy to use and effective. We provide all puppy owners with current, accurate information on dog training based on canine biology, physiology and conditioning principles. It is up to you, the new owner to follow through with the puppy’s training by taking him to Socialization and/or Puppy Classes.
We take great pride in our dogs and breeding program and strive to very high standards. Nothing makes us prouder than when a new owner calls to tell us how impressed their vet is with their new puppy in how confident, healthy and friendly he is. We try to make each litter better than the last and above all, do no harm to the future of this amazing breed and consider ourselves a preservation breeder. We’re so proud of what we do for the next generation of the happy, healthy canine family.
